Quick Transmigration: Manual Mode [BL]
5.4 Fu Xue Trying To Reconnect
The next morning, Xie An came downstairs wearing fresh clothes and with his hair neatly styled.
"Hm?" Xie An's Beta father, Liu Shirong, looked him over with an amused smile. "Am I... smelling cologne on our An An?"
Xie An's shoulders jerked slightly, and his cheeks flushed pink, like a ripe peach.
Liu Shirong lowered his voice, clearly trying not to be overheard by Xie An's Alpha father, Xie Tengfei. Xie An nervously scanned the kitchen, where Xie Tengfei was busy preparing breakfast for the family.
"Shh, dad! What if Papa hears you?" When Xie An had received the memories of this body, he'd also learned the dynamics of this household.
His Alpha father could be dense at times. Aside from his Beta husband and Beta son, Xie Tengfei was rather aloof and oblivious in most matters. Liu Shirong had told him the story of their courtship: it was clear that Xie Tengfei had been... ahem, rather clueless when chasing Liu Shirong. At first, he treated his future Beta husband more like a close brother than a lover, doing many foolish things in the name of romance.
Xie An knew that Xie Tengfei wouldn't notice anything unusual about him, but his Beta father was perceptive.
He couldn't risk his secret being revealed so soon. Chang Ru would have a hard time otherwise, and Xie An couldn't bear the thought of his lover being 'bullied.'
So for now, he planned to take a "boiling frog" approach with his Alpha father, letting Xie Tengfei gradually become familiar with Chang Ru.
Liu Shirong teased him with a mischievous smile, placing a finger to his lips in a shushing gesture.
"Though I'm not opposed... you still have to be careful~" Liu Shirong winked at Xie An.
Xie An immediately felt his face heat up, fully aware of what his father was hinting at.
"Breakfast for my darlings is ready!" Xie Tengfei emerged from the kitchen, practically dancing, his eyes sparkling as they landed on his two favorite people.
He set down the hot dishes and planted sloppy kisses on both Xie An's and Liu Shirong's cheeks before they could even settle at the table.
"Hm? Our An An looks so cute today!" Xie Tengfei tried to figure out what was different, but couldn't. His son simply looked cuter than usual.
Liu Shirong sat next to him, smiling, quietly placing his bell peppers onto Xie Tengfei's plate. Xie Tengfei noticed but could only laugh helplessly and eat them, warning Liu Shirong that next time he'd have to eat them himself.
Xie An watched it all and smiled quietly.
But he couldn't linger in this warm family moment for long—he had promised Chang Ru they would walk to school together this morning.
He quickly finished his breakfast, said goodbye to his smiling Beta father and stunned Alpha father, and opened the door.
A rose appeared in front of his face. Looking up at the person holding it, his heart skipped a beat—half from being moved, and half from the fear that Xie Tengfei had seen everything.
"Uh, wait, wait!" he exclaimed, quickly shutting the front door behind them. The click echoed faintly, and Xie An's heart raced.
Chang Ru looked at him curiously, eyebrows slightly raised. "What's wrong?"
Xie An grabbed Chang Ru's hand, tugging gently but firmly. "Come on, let's move. We can't be seen yet."
Chang Ru blinked, a soft blush creeping up his cheeks, but he did not resist. A small, happy smile tugged at his lips.
For Chang Ru, it was strangely exciting that Xie An, the Beta he liked, was the one to initiate their hand-holding. The usually composed school grass now looked lively and playful, and it made his chest ache in a warm, pleasant way.
Xie An pulled him along briskly, trying to maintain both speed and stealth. "We have to keep moving before anyone notices," he muttered under his breath, cheeks pink, heart thudding.
Then Xie An paused a bit, looking at Chang Ru a little flustered and trying to explain. "It-it's not like I want to hide but my Papa is pretty strict, so..."
Chang Ru simply laughed softly, leaning slightly closer, enjoying the closeness and the fact that this little Beta was his.
"I understand, don't worry. I will try my best."
"Try your best?" Xie An tilted his head. "Why? You're already the best."
It was just Xie An's Alpha father being a little bit overprotective.
Chang Ru's eyebrows raised in surprise. If one looked a little closer, the Alpha's ears turned a bit pink.
-----------
Fu Xue stood quietly near the corner of the school gate, half hidden behind the notice board.
His eyes followed the two figures walking side by side. Xie An's laughter was soft, like sunlight filtering through morning mist, and Chang Ru's gaze never left him, not even once.
That gentle look, the faint curve of his lips...
Fu Xue's fingers clenched tightly around the strap of his bag.
That smile was supposed to be his.
In his previous life, the only time Chang Ru had ever looked at someone that way was when he looked at him. Yet now, all that warmth was directed toward a Beta who didn't even have any existence in the first place.
Fu Xue bit his lip hard, the metallic taste of blood faint on his tongue. His heart twisted with something unpleasant, a mix of jealousy, frustration, and disbelief.
It should not have turned out like this. He had done everything the same as before, transferred to the same class, stayed close to Chang Ru, avoided conflicts, and even distanced himself from Fan Jian early on to avoid misunderstandings.
But somehow, that Beta appeared out of nowhere and changed everything.
He could not let it continue.
Fu Xue's mind raced. If Chang Ru's feelings in this life had strayed, there had to be a way to pull them back.
In his past life, Fan Jian had always been a thorn in Chang Ru's side, rough, arrogant, and constantly at odds with him. Yet, ironically, it was because of their rivalry that Chang Ru finally took action and realized his feelings for Fu Xue.
Back then, when Fan Jian had openly pursued him, Chang Ru's calm façade cracked for the first time. That was when Fu Xue realized that Chang Ru only noticed him because someone else desired him.
Maybe he could recreate that.
Fu Xue's gaze flickered toward the sports field in the distance, where Fan Jian usually hung around before class.
But then his confidence faltered.
After rebirth, Fu Xue had avoided Fan Jian completely. He didn't know what Fan Jian thought of him now, or if Fan Jian even remembered him.
In their past life, Fan Jian had been drawn to him because of being an Omega that Chang Ru could talk to. But now, after deliberately keeping his distance, Fu Xue wasn't sure how to start again.
Still, as he watched Chang Ru lightly touch Xie An's shoulder, something in him snapped.
He could not lose again.
If the world wanted to twist the story, then he would twist it back.
Fu Xue straightened his posture, a faint, calculating smile touching his lips as he turned away from the gate.
It seemed it was time to meet Fan Jian again.
----------------
Fu Xue spotted Fan Jian leaning against the railing near the sports field, tossing a basketball lightly from hand to hand. His heart thudded. The rugged Alpha looked as effortless as ever, exuding confidence and charm.
Swallowing nervously, Fu Xue stepped forward. "Uh... hi, Fan Jian." His voice cracked slightly, betraying his nerves.
Fan Jian turned slowly, frowning in mild confusion. "Do I... know you?"
Fu Xue's cheeks flushed red, but he forced a small, awkward smile. "I... uh, we haven't met yet, I guess. I'm Fu Xue. I... just transferred here."
Fan Jian raised an eyebrow, studying the timid Omega carefully. "Oh, a new face. Well, welcome. I guess." His tone was neutral, showing neither hostility nor warmth, but his sharp gaze naturally sized Fu Xue up.
Fu Xue's stomach twisted, feeling the weight of the Alpha's stare. He wanted to impress him, to somehow make him notice, but every word stuck in his throat.
From a distance, Xie An slowed down and ducked behind a low wall, quietly observing. He did not reveal himself, preferring to watch how Fu Xue handled the encounter. His transmigrator's intuition picked up the tension radiating from Fu Xue. That guy was planning something sketchy.
Fan Jian casually bounced the basketball a few times, still watching the Omega. "Well... good luck with classes, I suppose. You will probably need it."
Fu Xue nodded, swallowing hard, then fumbled with the strap of his bag. "Y-yeah... thanks." He felt both embarrassed and frustrated at his own clumsiness.
Xie An's eyes narrowed slightly, though he remained hidden. He was curious what Fu Xue was planning because he remembered the Omega being described as not so... smart.
Chang Ru, still walking a few steps ahead with Xie An's hand in his, glanced at Xie An. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Xie An whispered, still watching from the shadows. Although, he was not sure what Fu Xue was trying to do, there was no way to steal his lover from him. HMPH!
Fu Xue finally stepped back, giving a small, polite nod to Fan Jian before hurrying down the path. His heart pounded, partly from nerves and partly from the realization that he had now made the first move to reconnect with the Alpha. He had no idea how to proceed next.
Xie An stayed quiet, observing silently, making a mental note of everything.
