Different Worlds [Kusuo Saiki x Reader]
(Y/n)'s Return
Letting out a groan of pain, she cracked her eyes open. Through blurry vision, she sees the white ceiling of a room she does not recognize. Where was she? Wasn't she in hell fighting angels?"(Y/n)!" A familiar voice called out. She saw a blob of pink enter her vision. Kusuo? What was he doing here? Shouldn't he still be back in the human world? He had no way of getting to hell unless he died.
With that realization, she snapped her eyes open and jolted up. "Kusuo– Agh! Shit!" She swore, too much in pain to care. "Careful, idiot! You're not fully healed!" Kusuo scolded her via telepathy. "Healed...?" She mumbled as she looked down. Ah, she remembers now, she got slashed by that one particularly annoying angel.
After glancing around, she realized she wasn't in hell, but in Kusuo's room. But that still doesn't explain how she was here, in the human world. "What happened?" She asked him, clearly confused. "You don't remember? I had summoned you here. You were bleeding everywhere! I thought you were going to die!" Kusuo exclaimed, looking frazzled. "Me? Die? I can't die again," she laughed, giving him an amused smile. But he was not amused; he looked bothered and worried. "Y/N... This is serious, I could've lost you," Kusuo mumbled, looking about ready to cry. He's never been emotional before, but she gave him a good scare.
Not caring that she is in her demon form or covered in blood, he fell into her, hugging her. Surprised by the sudden affection, she wrapped an arm around him. "Hey, it's alright, I'm fine, see? Now don't frown, after all, you are not properly dressed without a smile," she said, trying to cheer him up. But, in turn, he hugged her tighter. "Don't leave, ever again," Kusuo demanded, as he buried his face into her shoulder. (Y/n) didn't say anything as she let him hug her. A priority that she doesn't give to just anyone. She knew he needed this hug.
After the long hug, Kusuo backed away and looked at her expectantly. "Well? What took you so long? Why are you hurt?" Kusuo asked with a displeased expression. "First, I didn't give a specific date, I just said summer. Plus, you forget that I'm not good with human seasons- Ow!" (Y/n) yelped as Kusuo smacked her on the head.
"Idiot! Don't make such promises if you don't even know what you're talking about!" Kusuo scolded her, clearly unhappy. "I think you humans call this abuse..." She grumbled as she rubbed her head. "In any case, we had a squabble with heaven, no thanks to the princess. It was actually quite interesting-" she stopped short as Kusuo interrupted her.
"You fought angels?! Didn't you say they can kill demons?! Is that wound going to kill you?!" Kusuo asked frantically. "Calm down, I'm not going to die from a flesh wound, it'll heal... I think," (Y/n) mumbled the last part, unsure if it would heal. She's never witnessed someone get hit by an angelic weapon and live.
"You think? You don't know?" Kusuo asked with a look of disbelief. She should've known he heard her. He probably read her mind or overheard her mumbling to herself. Guess she has to tell him the truth. "No, I don't know, as far as I know, I'm the only demon who's survived something like this," (Y/n) admitted.
She doesn't know it, but surviving at all was pure luck. Kusuo wasn't able to heal her; all he could do was try and stop the bleeding. Even his parents tried to help, mostly his mom, as his dad was useless. Many times, Kusuo had forgotten you were a demon and thought your lack of a pulse had meant you died. He nearly had a heart attack a few times.
"You're not leaving the human world again," Kusuo demanded sternly. He won't let another incident happen again, especially if he's not there to prevent it. "Now, you know I can't stay in the human world indefinitely," (Y/n) said with a nervous smile. "Who's going to stop you? So long as I'm alive, no deity or god can take you from me. If they tried, I would rip that title from them," Kusuo promised with a dark look.
To any normal person, they'd be afraid or creeped out. But (Y/n) looked surprised and felt flattered he'd go so far for her. "Ku, is she awake yet?" Kurumi called from the other side of the door. The door seemed to open on its own, showing that (Y/n) was indeed awake. "Oh, thank goodness you're alright! You gave us all a scare, my dear," Kurumi said as she moved to (Y/n)'s side with a plate of food in hand. "Here, eat up, get your strength back," she insisted as she practically shoved the food in (Y/n)'s face. (Y/n) had no choice but to accept the food, grinning nervously.

"We are going to school today, you have a lot of assignments to catch up on," Kusuo said as he used his powers to pack her backpack and get her school clothes. "Kusuo..." (Y/n) called out with a small smile, but he was too distracted to notice. "No complaining, I refuse to leave you at home. You could get taken, leave, or start bleeding again. I said I won't let you out of my sight, so you're going to school," Kusuo said firmly.
"Actually, I don't mind going back to school, there's just a slight issue," (Y/n) said with a casual grin, as if nothing was wrong. Kusuo looked at her, confused, wanting her to continue. "I can't change into human form," (Y/n) revealed with a wide smile.
"What do you mean you can't change forms?" Kusuo asked with a look of disbelief. "Well, with the slash on my stomach, I'm not sure if the wound would reopen if I try it," (Y/n) explained as best she could. Obviously, she had no clue if what she said was true, but it felt like a gut instinct not to try it. "I mean, I can test it if you–" "No," Kusuo cuts her off before she can finish.
Thus, leading her to stand in front of their school, in demon form. She felt awkward being at school. But, she didn't show it, as she stood confidently in their shared classroom, hand clasped to Kusuo's. Why did no one scream in fear or look at her funny? Well, it's all thanks to Kusuo's powers, as he shifted the world a 5th time to avoid suspicion. Everyone's brain is now wired to see (Y/n)'s demon form as her usual human form.
Why didn't he use a normal illusion spell? He didn't want to slip up. For example, Nendo could walk in without Kusuo noticing and not be able to blanket (Y/n) in an illusion, then bam, she's discovered. Then, he'd either have to bonk Nendo on the head or explain (Y/n)'s appearance. The second option wasn't happening, and the first option could also have problems.
For example, what if he hits Nendo, then someone else walks in on (Y/n) and sees her demon form? Then he wouldn't be able to bonk them... So on and so on. Now, being seen as a 5'6 human when she's actually a 7-foot demon is going to cause some problems. At most, if one were to wrap an arm over her shoulder, they would actually be touching her waist.
"Second buddy!!" Nendo exclaimed as he wrapped her in a tight hug, unaware he was lifting her by her ass and hugging her stomach. "Nendo, my good friend!" (Y/n) greeted through gritted teeth. Damn, his hug is hurting her wound!
"Put her down, now," Kusuo demanded in a dark tone that caught Nendo off guard. The glare sent Nendo's way was frightening. Gently, Nendo complied but looked confused and oblivious overall. "What's wrong? It was just a hug, it's not like it hurt her, right?" Nendo asked as he looked to (Y/n) for confirmation. Only to see her holding her chest in pain.
"BUDDY! WHAT'S WRONG?!" Nendo screamed as he waved his arms around to see what was wrong. "I'm alright, really," (Y/n) assured him, as Nendo looked guilty and worried. He didn't mean to hurt her; had he known, he would have approached her more gently.
Kusuo let out a sigh, knowing it was an accident. "Just be more careful, okay?" Kusuo said sternly. "On it! I can do that for my two best buds!" Nendo proclaimed, with a determined look. Kusuo blinked as he thought for a second that he heard Nendo's thoughts proclaim the same promise. No, he must be mistaken.
