Rejecting The Beta

Rejecting The Beta

Chapter 5

No.

No.

No.

I can't go to his pack. Until I know.

Until I know he's my mate.

Even then, would I be able to leave my pack?

I always wanted my mate to be from my own pack.

I wanted Ace to be my mate.

"No." I denied and Ethan looked like I had slapped him.

"Don't you want to meet Ace, then?"

Oh, not again. I see he likes playing. But there was no way I was going with him.

"I'll find a way." I replied confidently.

He raised an eyebrow, surprised by my retaliation. Knowing that the previous Alpha was with the rest of my family and Ethan to not let me and Ace meet, I have confidence. I will meet him, sooner or later. He's the Alpha, after all.

"Let's go home now," Ethan said.

"You go, I'll be out for the night."

I guess, my reply angered him as I saw him clench his jaw and taking a deep breath to calm himself down.

Suddenly, I was pinned against the tree, Ethan's face dangerously close to me and my arms above my head.

"Don't you test my patience, Jezebel," he spoke.

I shivered. His eyes flickered to my lips for a second and then back at my face.

He touched his nose to mine and took a deep breath inhaling my scent. I would have fainted under his heated gaze if he wasn't holding me yet. His breath mixed with mine and before I could even register what was happening, he kissed me.

The kiss was nothing like before. It was rough, punishing, and full of anger. I didn't respond. I was too much pissed. I tried to move but his grip was too hard. He pulled away to breathe and groaned, "Why do you do this to me, godammit?"

"Ethan-" he didn't give me a chance to speak as he again pressed his lips on mine, gently this time. He let go of my wrists as his hands moved to my hair. I brought my hands to his chest to push him away but he didn't budge. It took all my willpower to not respond back. I cannot cheat on Ace. Never.

Ethan was very much frustated at this point. He pulled away. A look of betrayal and anger clear on his face.

"Ethan, I'm sorry, I can't- woah!" He picked me up and put me on his shoulder.

"Put me down!" I screamed.

I hit my fists on his back but he didn't react.

We soon reached my house and I was strugging and yelling on the top of my voice.

"Ethan, I swear-"

"Jeez. Shut up!" He slapped me on my butt and I was rendered speechless.

Asshole.

Unfortunately, nobody was at home today and I was completely alone with Ethan. And my family won't return by tomorrow. God knows, what he would do to me...

He carried me to my room and threw me on the bed. Before I could get up, he was on top of me, trapping me completely.

"Mate!" he growled.

His wolf.

I was in deep trouble. His wolf had surfaced. There was no way I was going to make it alive.

"Ethan," I cupped his face, "please calm down."

"I am Ryder. Igraine, you need to surface."

Igraine?

I looked at him confused and he continued, "Igraine, I can feel you...."

My mind was full of questions.

Ethan/Ryder now had his face in the crook of my neck and suddenly his teeth were grazing the region where my neck and shoulder meet.

The area where a mate is supposed to be marked.

Oh goddess. Help me. I am not ready for this.

I couldn't contain my fear and screamed, "Ethan! Please come back! Ethan!"

To my surprise, he pulled away and his eye colour was back to normal. Green eyes full of sadness. It made my heart ache.

I had this strange urge to kiss him.

But I couldn't.

He didn't say anything. He kept staring at me and then without a word, got off the bed and strode towards the door.

For some reason, I felt like I should be sorry or make it up to him. I honestly was beginning to believe that he was my mate. I felt good by being kissed by him. But then, my best friend and my alpha is important too.

It was 2 o'clock now in the morning and still, I was wide awake. I looked at the ceiling, blankly.

I couldn't stop thinking about what happened today.

I felt bad for Ethan. Afterall, it was not his fault. He deserved love from his mate.

And Ace. Hell, he wouldn't even talk to me. But, we need to be clear about our... situation.

Should I call at his house?

Werewolves barely used phones as they used the mind link but still... it won't hurt to try.

And nobody is at home except Ethan, who probably would be asleep.

I quickly run downstairs and pick up the landline and dial the number which I remembered by heart.

My heart beat was erratic.

Please, Ace pick up the phone.

"Hello?"

His voice was hoarse, like he hadn't spoken for days.

"Hello? Ace?" I whispered.

"Jez," he whispered back.

"Ace, please, I-I want to meet you..." I murmured, desperately.

"You are here?" his voice lightened up.

"Here? I was at home all this time."

Why did he think I had gone somewhere?

"I thought you left. With Ethan," he sounded so sad.

"I never left, Ace. All this time I was trying to meet you but there are guards around your house."

I am sure my family was behind this. I hate them.

"I am coming. I am coming right now." He said, his voice way better than before.

"Ok." I whispered.

I hung up. I just hope Ethan is asleep.

"Who were you talking to?"

I turned around.

Shit. Ethan?! Why didn't he sleep?

"A friend." I replied.

"Care to tell me his name?" he asked, his eyes boring into mine.

"None of your business." I didn't mean to be rude but it came out like that.

I expected Ethan to be very angry at me but instead he hung his head down and went back to his room.

I would talk to him tomorrow but right now I needed to see Ace. This was my only chance.

I went up to my room and opened the window and there he was.

"Back away, I am coming up." He said.

He could have come from the door but I think Alpha has become really sporty nowadays.

He climbed up in no time and when he landed in my room, I immediately hugged him.

"I missed you." I said.

"I missed you too."

We pulled away and Ace asked, "Where is that mate of yours?"

"He is in the other bedroom."

"I hate to see you with him. Have you two mated?"

"What? Of course not. I haven't shifted yet."

"But, that day, he was in your room..." he trailed off.

"About that, you remember the day he first met me? Well, he carried me home from your room."

"I will kill him," he clenched his jaw.

"No, you won't." I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Why not? Actually, that's a great idea. You will be free from the mate bond and you'll be mine." he said wickedly and I didn't like it at all.

"Ace, you cannot do that. He's innocent." I reasoned.

"Don't tell me you're falling for him."

"It's not about that. Just, don't do anything stupid."

He rolled his eyes at me.

"So, tell me," he started, "how did you get back from Ethan's pack?"

"What? I never left."

"But, everybody said that you left with your mate..."

"That was because they didn't want you to meet me."

Ace looked as if he's going to punch something but then he calmed himself down and muttered, "They all are in deep shit."
