Y/n quietly poured tea into a China cup as the rest of the agency patently waited for the director's arrival. They were currently in an underground bunk, safe and secured from the outside. Those who didn't have an ability were sent home with pay as those with abilities were ordered to stay in the bunker to wait for further instructions.
Y/n blew on the steaming tea as his hair covered his eyes. It wasn't until the soft tapping of the director's footsteps that Y/n finally looked up. Kunikida, who was sitting, stood up abruptly as everyone put their attention to their president before them.
"Listen up, everyone," Fukuzawa started. "Back then... just two or three days ago, war was still avoidable. But now, that bridge has burned down. On one hand, we have the mafia, trying to take us down. We must safeguard the Detective Agency under this two-front attack.
"Dazai, elaborate."
Dazai smiled as he cheered, "Gotcha~ This Guild possess formidable capital, while the Mafia has the advantage in the size of their troops. No matter which side we engage in open conflict, we'll only end up getting beaten to a pulp. So, we're gonna rearrange our offence and defense into different personnel and hold our own against them with guerrilla tactics for now.
"It goes without saying that the defense team's objective is to stay here and protect doctor Yosano. With the doctor's healing ability on our side, we can go all out without ever having to worry about our lives." Yosano chuckled while some grimaced. "As for how good that's feel... that's another matter."
Defense team: Fukuzawa, Ranpo, Yosano, and Kenji.
"Next..." Dazai continued. "Our offense will be divided into two teams. With Tanizaki's camouflage ability..."
Offense team A: Kunikida and Tanizaki.
"...and my ability nullifier as the respective keys, we'll take out our enemies from the side."
Offense team B: Dazai and Atsushi.
"Uhm, wait a minute," Atsushi stammered slightly as he raised his hand. "What about Y/n? What team is he going to be on?"
Dazai chuckled as he gestured to Y/n. "And lastly, we have our supplier, our all-rounder. If something were to happen to either of the teams, Y/n here would step up. He counts as a whole team himself. Other than substitution, Y/n will be collecting our supplies for us undercover. A 'master of disguise' as those put it." He jokingly bowed.
Supplier and Emergence team: Y/n.
"That seems to be right," Y/n claims. However, he noticed the hesitance in Atsushi eyes. He only smiled down at Atsushi as carefully patted Atsushi's head. "No need to worry your head about it, sweetie. This is how it's always been."
Dazai clapped regaining people's attention. "The main objective of this operation is to ensure the seclusion of this base," he stated.
Fukuzawa took over the conversation. "Out of the three organizations, only one can survive," he confirmed. "If we don't fight, we die."
"Of course, we will have the last laugh," Dazai chuckled quietly.
"I'm already looking forward to how this will end," Y/n whispered to himself with a smile.
"This is a war of abilities among three organizations!"
───◇──◇─◇
Both of the offense teams have made their way out of the bunker in order to do their patrol. That left the defense and supplier team to be stationary. It would only be a moment longer until Y/n finished his tea and got up, getting ready to leave.
"I'm going out for the first run," Y/n claims as he grabbed a black and (f/c) hat to cover his head. "If there anything that needs to be picked up besides the basic foods?"
"Ooo~ Can I have some more treats, food, and what nots?" Ranpo questioned, already on his last Pocky that he brought with himself.
"The newest model magazine was supposed to be out an hour ago, would you mind getting it for me?" Yosano asks as she didn't even look up from the magazine that she was currently reading.
Y/n couldn't help but chuckle as he accepted everything his co-workers asked for. However, before leaving he couldn't help but grumble to himself, "Geez, I hate hats..." He headed for the exit. "So uncomfortable..."
"It's for your own safety," Fukuzawa called out to Y/n.
"I know that!"
A few minutes after Y/n had left to get more supplies, Ranpo was already groaning. He slumped in his seat bored out of his mind as nothing was happening right now. He pouted, disappointed that Y/n didn't decide to stay so that he could bug him. However, then he wouldn't get his treats, it was a lose-lose situation.
"I want to go outside, too..." Ranpo groaned out. "It's so unfair that Y/n gets to go by himself."
"But isn't the reason why Y/n can go outside is because he's really good at blending in with the crowd?" Kenji questioned, a finger on his chin in thought. "And that if anyone were to in a kidnapped situation, Y/n would get out the fastest out of everyone in the agency?" His eyes were wide with innocence.
Ranpo groaned and pouted. "Unfortunately..." Yosano couldn't help but join in on Ranpo's tantrum as Fukuzawa could only sigh.
Ranpo shook his head as he gazed back at the monitor before him. His joking and laidback attitude suddenly disappeared as he sat up and leaned in closer to the monitor. His brows furrowed as Yosano seemed to pick up on this.
"Cameras No. 2 and 5 are down!" Yosano announced.
"Activate the automatic gun emplacements!" Fukuzawa ordered, his eyes glaring.
On the other side of the cameras, a certain red head was walking down a long set of abandoned train tracks. Chuuya perked up when the sound of machines buzzing was heard. When he looked up, he noticed machine guns being pointed at him. He smiled.
A loud bang shook the underground base. Through the cameras the detectives could see that Chuuya was unscathed and was the reason for the explosion of the machines. Chuuya almost wanted to laugh but kept it in as he smirked at the camera.
"You're so undermanned I could cry," Chuuya taunted. "It's pitiful, detectives. Come out, whoever's alive, in there!"
Yosano sweats as she watches as Chuuya precedes further into the base, closer to them. Ranpo's brows furrowed as he glanced at the president. Fukuzawa stared at the footage for a moment before looking back at the detective who he knew the longest.
"Director..." Ranpo started.
Fukuzawa nodded. "Are we all agreed...?" He questioned, to which he all got a nod from.
Chuuya scanned the area as he continued down the long hallway. He didn't want to say it, but he was getting sick of walking. Oh, how he wanted to just use his ability to fly down this hallway faster. However, he still needed to be conscious as he didn't know who from the Detective Agency was still in the base.
Chuuya hummed to himself an unknown song, thinking about the past and a certain someone. However, his thoughts were cut off when he saw two figures standing in front of him. A young boy and a woman with a large sword. To this, Chuuya raised a brow, sighed then smirked.
"Only two have come?" Chuuya questioned. "I'm being belittled."
"All clients should schedule an appointment before visiting the Detective Agency," Yosano claims with a warm smile that obviously had hidden meaning to it. "If you're unhappy with the reception here, feel free to go to another."
Chuuya seemed to irk slightly as his eyes went wide and intimidating. "You think a mafia still needs to make an appointment... when he's here to tear down your base?"
"Yep! I don't think you have to!" Kenji cheered with a bright look.
Yosano sighed as she scratched her head. "Kenji's right. Tear it down if you want. However, you're not really here for that, are you?"
"Ha," Chuuya breathed out. "What makes you think so?"
"We are detectives. If we can't deduce the purpose behind a client's visit at a glance, what sort of detectives would that make us?"
Chuuya deadpanned. "Where's your director?"
Yosano lazily pointed up at the camera. "Over there."
Chuuya could only roll his eyes as he turned to the camera and pulled out a photo. "A present from our boss."
Fukuzawa raised a brow as he zoomed in on the picture. "These are... members of the Guild?" He questioned, his microphone on so that he could communicate with the Mafioso.
"We've lured them with bait. The time and place of their appearance are all stated here," Chuuya claims as he turned the photo. "Do whatever you like with them. They're all yours."
Fukuzawa glared in suspicion. "...why?"
"It's a rare chance, isn't it? You can wipe out these two blasted guys from the Guild in one go!"
Fukuzawa put a finger over his mouth in thought. 'This is indeed a perfect chance to ambush ability users of the Guild...' His mind wondered as he narrowed his eyes. 'However...'
"I see," Yosano spoke up with a smile. "That's quite an offer. But we propose something better." Her smile turned twisted as she pointed her weapon at Chuuya. "Let's chop you up piece by piece... and have you spill what you're really up to!"
"Awesome plan," Chuuya smirked. "However, I don't think that's a good idea..." He snapped his fingers.
Both Ranpo's and Fukuzawa's eyes widened when the screen before them glitched for a moment and a different tab opened without them doing anything. However, that wasn't what scared them. The new tab was a live video showing through a sniper lens. Dread washed over the two as they noticed that the sniper was pointing right at a certain black and (f/c) hat.
"Do not fight him!" Fukuzawa imminently ordered.
Both Yosano and Kenji stumbled for a moment as they were about to pounce on Chuuya. They raised a brow in questioning as Chuuya smirked. Although Chuuya didn't know what the camera was pointing at, he's sure that Mori has something up his sleeve to make the Detective Agency's hair all frizzled.
"Hey, what gives?" Yosano questioned as her glare was unwavering.
Fukuzawa hesitated for a moment. "They have Y/n."
Yosano and Kenji flinched at the name as their eyes widened. They stared at Chuuya in shock. Chuuya, however, seemed to have a similar but less exaggerated reaction. His smirk had fallen, hearing a familiar name.
'Y/n... is a detective...?' Chuuya thought to himself. 'That would explain everything that had happened before though...'
"Here is my answer, envoy of the Port Mafia," Fukuzawa announced through the camera as he had to click the tab away. "I am mindful of your proposal. If the Detective Agency is successful in defeating the elite forces of the Guild, you will have eliminated an enemy without lifting a finger for yourself.
"Under such circumstances, it is an ingenious plan for killing two birds with one stone."
Chuuya forced a smile. "But it's not like you're getting the short end of the stick either..." he proposed. "...is it?"
Fukuzawa narrowed his eyes despite Chuuya not being able to see him. "Indeed, provided that everything you have divulged hitherto is true."
Chuuya went silent as his smile dropped, no longer having the need to keep it.
"Do we seem like we would tear at ally prey within sight? Is that what you think of us, a pack of rabid stray dogs? It is a sophisticated strategy to manipulate one's enemy by feeding them false information. But if you think such a mediocre tactic would be effective against us, then the Mafia is unworthy of being our opponent."
"To be talented by the leader of the enemy camp..." Chuuya muttered to himself. "What an honor." He teases.
Fukuzawa gestured for Ranpo to listen careful, to which the other response by taking out a certain pair of glasses. "What are you hiding?" Fukuzawa ordered for Chuuya to speak.
"Nothing."
"What is the Mafia's move behind the scene?"
"There. Is. No. Move."
Ranpo's eyes widened before narrowing harshly. "I see... so that's how it is." He pulled the microphone closer to him. "Hey, Mr. Fancy-hat, are you the one who leaked the intel to the jolly duo of the Guild?"
Chuuya blinked at the nickname as he patted his hat in questioning. "Huh? So what if I am?" Confusion played a toll.
"The Guild must also have suspected it to be a trap, but they still decided to go along with it, because the bait is too appealing to resist," Ranpo claims, only wanting to confirm an answer he already knew of. "What are you luring the Guild with?"
Chuuya knew that tone of voice, he used it himself at times as well. The Mafia was figured out, but it didn't matter since the plan was already sent into action. He smirked as he tilted his hat in an old fashion.
"Well, it's the clerks, of course." Chuuya had no more reason to beat around the bush.
"You're using our clerks as 'bait'...?!" Fukuzawa shouted in disapproval and disgust.
Chuuya bowed. "There's still time to go to their rescue, and the Guild doesn't know that you'll mobilize. Easy peasy~"
Fukuzawa irked and tsked his tongue as he snapped a pen in his hand. "Ranpo... is he lying?
"Sadly, no," Ranpo replied, fixing his glasses. "At times like this... the truth is the most compelling."
"That is to say, you lot found out the hiding place of our clerks and leaked it to the Guild, then you leaked that to the Detective Agency," Yosano concluded. "Having us do each other in while you sweep up the spoils without breaking a sweat. That's what this is about..."
Chuuya's smile split his lips. "The Detective Agency will definitely fall for it, even knowing it's a trap! That's what the boss said!" He laughed out.
Fukuzawa closed his eyes in regret.
"Director?" Ranpo asks softly. "What's your next orders?"
Fukuzawa took a deep breath as he glanced at Chuuya before looking at Ranpo. "...Notify the clerks to evacuate immediately. Also...
"...contact Kunikida and have Y/n on speed dial."
───◇──◇─◇
Y/n felt a small shiver go down his spine. "Jeez, when did it get so chilly all of a sudden?" He mumbled to himself, looking up at the partly cloudily skies.
Y/n let out a small hum as he scratched his head slightly, no hat in sight. He pouted slightly as he looked down at the rooftop he was on and the sniper below him, knocked out without even knowing what had happened to him.
"What a lousy hitman," Y/n muttered to himself as he crouched down. However, that's when he noticed a camera sitting close by. He picked it up and raised it to his face. He smiled as he made a peace sign. "Sorry, Mr. Devil~ But you're just going have to do better than that.
"A sniper is so overrated and overdone~"
Mori's smile never faltered as he watched the live video of Y/n through his own screen. However, the video was cut short when Y/n threw the camera to the ground and stepped on it, destroying it in a second. Mori chuckled lightly as he closed his eyes.
"I can never catch you off guard, can I, doll?" Mori questioned to himself, a chuckle leaving his lips. "It seems like you are my hardest mission to complete..."
