--JASON--

I kept staring at her throughout the class. Tears streamed down her face endlessly and she didn't try to wipe them away. I felt helpless for not being able to do anything for her and instantly knew Josh is going to pay for it.

Sure I didn't recognize her when she entered the class room like a scared puppy wearing a t-shirt that's two sizes bigger than hers and jeans which looked like her brother's. At first, I was shocked to see it's her when I pulled her up and thought she was as pretty as ever.

She looked different. Still, pretty.

I turned to my right and saw Gabe staring at me with a frown.

"Do you know her?" he asked me eagerly.

If he found out that she is the store girl I talked about, he would make my life hell; pleading me to break up with Cheryl and go, ask her out.

So, I went with the safer option "No"

He nodded but still looked like he didn't believe me.

The hour long class seemed like a never ending infinite loop with the beautiful girl sobbing beside me.

Once the class is over, she tried to run away quickly but I held her wrist telling her to wait and let the whole class go out.

After a couple of minutes, the class is empty except for us and Gabe who is still beside me, looking totally confused.

I looked at her,  straight in the eye and said "You should not let those pricks ruin your day. This is your first day and you might've thought that people here are worse. But trust me, everyone's not like them. You will soon like here and might even get your friends for lifetime; like how you girls say BFFs. So, stop worrying about what has happened. OK?"

She nodded and I did something that made her look at me in shock and Gabe gasp.

I pulled out her spectacles and wiped her tears away with my fingers before putting them on again.

"I don't know if you've ever been told, but you have pretty eyes" I said smiling at her "Don't ruin those tears for someone not worthy"

She gave a small smile and satisfied by her reaction, I left the room with Gabe.

I know he is eyeing me curiously demanding an explanation but I acted like its nothing.

We are walking to our next class before Gabe couldn't take anymore and yelled "What was that? Who the hell is she?"

"Anna. You heard the teacher tell us"

"Don't you 'duh' me okay? I meant who is she-- to you?"

"Nothing. A class mate"

"Oh. That's it? Then why did you switch on your protective mode on a total stranger?" he spat in a disbelieving tone.

I groaned "Look. I don't know her. Ok? She was sobbing and I thought of helping her. That's it. End of Discussion"

He muttered bitterly "Whatever"

Its apparent that he still had doubts but I'd push the discussion about her as far as possible.

I reached the class room and got seated at the last row as usual; this time beside Emily who is one of my best friends since she joined the school. She is biting her nails in worry while glancing at the door nervously.

"Hey Em. Are you okay?"

She looked at me tensely "You know Anna, my friend. She has to be here. I am scared if something happened to her as I lost her in the last hour"

"She attended my class and is fine. Don't worry; she'll be here"

Oh. She attends History too.

I should've asked her what class she would be going next. She might've got lost and could be late again.

But I am proven wrong when she didn't come the whole hour and Emily is looking terrified; not bothering to listen to the class.

Of course she would be tensed about that innocent girl who cannot talk. Even I am scared after witnessing what happened to her. She must be crying her eyes out sitting somewhere; probably in the girl's toilet.

Once the class finished, I looked at Emily "I think she might be in the loo. Go and check"

"What? Why would she?" she asked, looking confused.

"Just Go!" I yelled

As she ran away from the room, I went to the canteen along with Gabe and ordered lunch for both of us. He didn't say a word all the while and walked with me to our common table.

After a few minutes, our friends started coming to us with their lunch trays - Kyle, Elle, Blaise, Hunter, Megan and finally Cheryl who gave me a long kiss before sitting down on her chair.

I turned back to my lunch when I found Emily and Anna coming straight towards us.

Anna is looking at me with a hurt or disappointed look; her eyes still red and puffy.

Has someone bullied her after I left?

She sat beside Emily, exactly opposite to me.

"So guys. This is Anna. Our new friend" Emily said chirpily.

Anna just waved her hand trying to smile; looking completely confused and out of place.

All of us said our 'Hi's to which she simply nodded.

Everyone looked at her in confusion as to why she didn't greet us back.

Realizing that I have to tell my friends so they won't misunderstand her, I moved a bit towards Gabe and Elle and told them in a whisper that she is dumb and cannot talk. They repeated the same to Cheryl and Megan who in turn told to Kyle, Blaise and Hunter.

"Why are you guys looking at us like that?" Emily asked, pointing at all of us.

Since Anna might be hurt knowing that we found out about her, I signaled Emily to come near to me. She obeyed by standing up and moved across the table just as I stood up and whispered "We know that she is dumb"

"WHAT?" she yelled, several decibels higher than normal human voice that I fell back to my chair.

UGH! Women.

The whole canteen became silent and looked at our table as if waiting for an explosion. However, Emily quickly retained and mumbled an apology before pulling out her chair and sat on it.

"What the hell do you mean Jason?" she hissed.

"I knew. Just leave it" I said with a shrug, looking at Anna who is quietly eating her food, not bothering to listen what we are discussing.

"What the hell Jason. Who told you Anna is dumb?" she yelled again.

"WHAT?" Anna shouted, looking astonished and this time, it's my turn to be shocked seeing her talk.

Oh My God. So, she is not dumb.

Once she realized that the whole canteen is eyeing us curiously, she stood up, mumbled a sorry and sat back looking at me as if demanding an explanation.

In fact all my friends' eyes are on me waiting for my reply.

"What? I thought she was dumb because she didn't reply me the other day" I said shrugging casually.

With that, the whole table cracked up laughing. Even Anna had a smile on her face; her first genuine smile since I saw her.

Though I made a fool of myself in front of my friends, her smile made it worthy and in the end, even I ended up laughing with them.

Slowly after the laughter went down which took a few minutes, I saw Blake Lively coming towards our table with a curious expression.

He eyed Anna for a while who looked anywhere but him, before he said "You are Anna, right?"

"No shit. Sherlock" I sniggered.

He continued, without looking at me "Hey Anna. It's me, Blake. We met the other day, a week before"

WHAT?

"So you are the hot guy she met?" Emily chirped excitedly.

WHAT THE F**K!

"Whoa.. So you think I am hot Anna?" he smirked.

Blake and hot?? No way.

Sure he is the basketball team captain and popular but still, he is a man whore. I don't understand what girls see in him. To me, he is nothing but an a**hole.

Anna looked furious, sending daggers at Emily before she turned to Blake and mumbled quietly "I -- I didn't mean-I mean-um-- It wasn't you-- I didn't tell her about you. It was someone else"

Blake grimaced at her answer and all of us cracked up laughing again. His face was priceless and I don't know how long we continued laughing like that before he left our table.

Finally when the laughter subsided, I heard Emily whisper to Anna "Now that I saw him clearly, I remember you saying that the guy had green eyes"

WHAT?

IS IT ME??

DID SHE TALK ABOUT ME???

She gaped at me in shock, realizing that I've listened to their girl conversation before lowering her head and blushed furiously while I leant back to my chair with a smirk.

So, she did talk about me.

I checked around to make sure no one heard her and sure enough everyone's busy eating.

Ten minutes before the bell, everyone left the table including Cheryl who gave me a quick peck before leaving.

I walked towards the men's locker rooms with Gabe following behind me and searched for Josh who is having a conversation with few jocks at the end of the room.

"Josh. We need to talk" I snapped at him.

"Are you breaking up with me?" he asked with puppy dog eyes which earned laughs from his friends.

"Are you coming or not?" I said in the same 'no-nonsense' tone.

He must have sensed the seriousness as he excused himself and walked with me to the other end of the room which is vacant.

"Stay away from her. If I ever find you hurting her again, I'm going to chop your balls off"

He laughed humorlessly "Is this blackmail? Are you threatening me Jason? Why is the girl important to you? The last time I checked, you have a girlfriend"

"Shut up a**hole"

"And why should I?? "

I smirked "Because my best friend is the captain of the school's soccer team; your team. And just so you know, Coach Stan wants me to get back to the team" I paused for effect before adding "I might consider it which means your position is in jeopardy"

We stared at each other, both of us trying not to break eye contact, killing each other with looks when he finally snapped 'Fine' and left the room.

With Gabe trailing behind me silently, I walked out of the room. He must have had shit load of questions in his mind. As expected, he pulled me to an empty class room and started his interrogation.

"What the f**k was that?"

"See Gabe. I am sorry to threaten him with your authority, but I didn't have an option" I explained.

"I didn't mean that. Why were you trying to defend that girl? We barely know her"

I myself don't have an answer for that. Sure I met her at a store and then my class, but still I don't know anything about her apart from her name. However, I felt the need to protect her when I saw her crying a whole hour and couldn't take it anymore.

"Jason. Please tell me she is the store girl" he said slowly.

I snapped my head in his direction, shocked by his words.

How the hell did he know?

"She is. Isn't she?" he smirked.

Okay. I fell for his trick once again.

Of course he would know who she is. He is my best friend and can read me like an open book.

"So you are the boy with green eyes who she thought as hot?" he said smugly.

I chuckled.

Out of all the questions he could've asked, he asked me the stupidest one "So I take it you've heard"

"Of course I heard. I am not dumb like the rest"

After staring at each other for a while, he broke the silence by asking "What are you going to do about her?"

"Why would I do anything about her?" I questioned back.

"You know what I am trying to tell Jason. Don't act innocent"

"I am not going to do anything about her. She is one of our friends now. That's why I was trying to protect her. Nothing else"

"Is that why you threatened Josh? Then why the hell did you defend her in class? You didn't know she was Emily's friend then"

He is right. Of course he is right. He knows me way too much.

"I know where this is leading to, Gabe. I am not going to breakup with Cheryl for her. That's wrong and I don't even know her" I said irriatedly.

He sighed "You said you will think about the girl if you saw her again"

"Why is it so important to you Gabe? Why do you want me to break up with Cheryl?" I asked quietly.

"Because she is a bitch and I want you to be happy"

"I am happy" I said totally aware that he won't believe me.

"No, you're not. Jason! You and Cheryl --- are two different people who don't belong together. You both don't seem like you're meant to be. She is not your type. I mean-- does it even make sense?"

No.. Not at all.. Of course I didn't tell him that.

"Yes. It does. But please leave it for now. We will talk about it later. We have classes to attend"

He nodded and we walked together to our next class.

After school is over, I drove home alone since Elle said she will be going out with Kyle and as usual I am welcomed by an empty house.

After having a quick shower, I checked my mobile only to find a message from Cheryl.

'Parents are not going to be home tonight. Wanna give some company?'

I smirked at what she is trying to tell and quickly replied 'Sure'

Looks like I hit jackpot. I am going to get laid tonight.

As I was getting ready to go to Cherry's house, I am suddenly reminded of my empty monthly protection service; condoms.

Looks like I've to get my stock filled.
