Chapter 2 - My new city
--ANNA--
I woke up the next morning, feeling very refreshed. I slept for almost seven hours; the best sleep I got in the past few weeks.
I quickly got out of my bed and rushed to the bath room to do my morning routine.
Today is the day I had been dreading the past few weeks. I had to hurry up as I need to reach my new town by the end of the day. I don't know anything about that place but still managed to get admission into a new school and also got a place to live.
As usual Aunt Kayla helped me through the whole procedure. Though I told her I can manage, she insisted and I had to listen to her.
After having a quick shower, I put on my white and pink polka dotted sun dress that's been put aside last night and dumped my used ones in the side zipper of my trolley.
Since I will be no longer in the city, I don't mind if I looked attractive or in my case, different from my usual shirt and jeans; which is the only reason I am wearing this after putting it aside in my closet for almost 2 years.
It was my favorite and I think it looks really good on me.
I checked myself in the mirror and thought I was right. I do look good.
Pulling the trolleys with both of my hands along with the bag around my shoulder, I carefully descended the stairs and got to the driveway.
Unlocking my car, I put the trolleys and the bag in my backseat. After taking out my wallet, I reached the front seat and started driving to the only place I needed to go, to say good bye before starting on a long journey.
By the time I reached the diner, it was almost 8. I got out of my car and went into the diner only to be crashed into someone; luckily it was Mary.
"Hey Anna... What are you doing here???"
Before I could give a reply, she added "You look lovely"
"Umm...Huh.. Thanks..."
I am really not used to compliments even if it is from a woman.
Remembering her earlier question, I added "I came here to say goodbye"
"Oh! I didn't know you were coming. Anyhow, since you are here why don't you have some food? I am sure you didn't have breakfast"
Having said that, she went to Dan and brought a plate full of chocolate chip pancakes.
Well, I couldn't deny them as they are my favorite. The one thing I'd definitely miss from this city apart from Mary and Lucy are these yummy mouthwatering pancakes.
Once I had my breakfast which was supposedly the whole plate, I went to Mary and thanked her. After talking for few minutes and giving out fake promises that I would keep in touch with her, I left the place and started my journey.
As excited as I am to go to a new town, I am also feeling bad to leave Mary; the only person who cared about me apart from my aunt. I can't help feeling sorry for myself that I had to leave the one place that had given me friends after so many years. Or so it seems.
Throughout the journey, I couldn't stop myself from thinking what would've happened if that night didn't occur.
Would I be staying in my hometown excited that a new year at school will be starting in a week or would I be sad that I am still living there.
I just had one stop throughout my drive which was for lunch.. I managed to have Cheese Hamburger at McDonald's and bought few eatables to help me through the drive from not getting bored. The rest of the journey was spent listening to Taylor Swift, One Direction and 5SOS songs.
It was almost 8 by the time I reached Pihan.
I want to find a grocery store first but I am already late for dinner. I can't keep them waiting for me since I informed them that I would be home for dinner.
Home. That word felt so strange.
Postponing my idea of locating a store nearby, I drove around asking people for directions to go to Lily Parker's house.
Fifteen minutes later, I gunned down my engine on the driveway of my new home.
The door was opened the instant my car engine was shut off. I was surprised to see a girl of my age coming down the porch towards my car.
"Are you Anna?"
I simply nodded.
"Well we have been waiting for you since----forever" she said hurriedly.
"I am sorry. I had to--"
"It's OK, no big deal. We just didn't want you to have your first dinner here alone, and I am hungry. Mum's not letting me have food, so hurry up"
She spoke so fast that it took me few seconds to understand what she said.
"And I am Emily by the way, Emily Parker" she told me giving her hand.
Emily.. How that name brought back all the happy memories and also a backstabbing pain in my heart.
I wish I could forget everything.
So this Emily must be the landlord's daughter.
Well, I didn't know that she had a daughter; that too of my age.
I shook her hand and simply said "It's nice meeting you Emily"
"Oh, come on!! We are not having a business meeting. Don't be so formal" she said cheerfully.
I only gave a small smile.
She helped me get the bags inside and showed me my room. The room was big with pink and purple backgrounds and a queen sized bed with a night stand on its left. The closet was huge and I am sure half of it would be empty with the amount of clothes I have.
Leaving the bags beside my bed, we reached the dining where a woman was busy setting the table. She must be Lily Parker.
"Hi. You must be Anna" she said with a huge smile.
Both mother and daughter seemed like friendly people; I could deduce that from their cheery tones. It also made me sure that I'd feel horrible leaving this place after a year.
"Hi" I replied shyly.
"Well, you must have had a long journey and might be tired. Why don't we have dinner first and discuss other things later"
I was never this happy hearing the word 'dinner'. Frankly speaking, I eat like a pig and food is always my first preference. Adding to that, I had a long journey which made me crave for food more than ever.
We were having dinner in peace until Emily started telling things about her classes, teachers, friends and class mates. To stop her from blabbering, I finally asked which school she would be going.
She suddenly stopped talking and looked at me in shock as if she realized that I am the heir of Slytherin and it was me who opened the Chamber of Secrets.
Ok, that was a little exaggerated. But why is her mouth wide open as if she wanted to fit a whole burger at once into her mouth.
She composed herself after seeing my expression and told me that there is only one school at this part of the town; which means that, not only are we attending the same school, we might also be sharing a few classes.
Great. Just great.
The rest of the conversation was much smoother with Lily and Emily telling me what Emily is planning to study and which universities she is planning to apply.
I was so thankful when they told me to sleep after dinner instead of boring me with their talks. I wasn't irritated; just tired with my drive and so went to bed immediately after dinner not even bothering to help Lily clean or change into my PJs.
I still had a week to get a job before starting school and the first thing to do tomorrow is to find a store and buy all essential necessities.
I can only hope everything goes on well and I don't get into trouble this year either, at school.
