Because Being Together Is Enough

Because Being Together Is Enough~ 9

*1 Week Later*
I was doomed.

I was seriously and pathetically doomed.

I was like a live zombie.

Zombies aren't living but I was exception.

I was thinking rubbish.

See there, how much I am doomed, looking at the roof, the night before my birthday.

Right now, I could not think of anything else. It was just half an hour left and I would turn 18. I would turn fucking 18. And that too here, in this 10 years old room of mine and without my mom (she was on night duty) and with nothing but just a phone call from Emily, Serena and I am not sure about Adrian. It was more than one week since he had been away. No way I was going to talk to him. He could not even come before my birthday? How ridiculous. I don't like parties so every year I celebrate my birthday with my three best friends. Well, first it used to be just Emily and Serena till fifth grade and then Adrian, I don't how, found his way in to our lives, and became one of my most important part of my life, let alone he even got a place in my heart. I still remember how, one day he asked me to help with his notes as he was a new admission and he was just a cute, little, chubby boy at that point of time (I still laugh thinking of the younger him), and I helped him. Then, I don't know how we ended up being best friends.

I picked up my phone, it showed 11:35 P.M., 13th October.

"Twenty-five minutes," I sighed.

CLING! CLING!

I sat up on my elbow and my head snapped towards my window. I pushed open my window which was big enough for me to jump out and commit suicide at the moment. I can't believe these are my thoughts. I glanced down (my room was on the first floor) and saw the familiar face, brown hair and chocolate brown eyes... That's not possible.

"Addy!" I exclaimed, seeing my best friend after what felt like years.

"Oh my God! What are you- why didn't you- I-I don't understand!" I stammered with shock and excitement.

He could get hurt. Why was he clinging to the pipe?

"Help me get up there Annie!" He cried out.

"Oh sorry sorry. Hold my hand," I helped him to come up and finally he was standing in front of me, real and solid. I actually couldn't believe that he had come! I was just so happy.

His brown hair were dishevelled and his chocolate brown eyes had a sort of excitement in them. I bet my grey eyes were also filled with happiness at that moment. Tears of happiness suddenly leaked through my eyes as I put my arms around Ad's neck.

"Do you realise how much I missed you Ad?" I murmered, hugging him very tightly. He held me tight.

"I know Annie. I missed you too," he whispered back.

"But here I am! Alive! HAHAHA," he faked a laughed, "And..." he dramatically said, "My Annie is turning 18 in...," he glanced at the clock, "15 minutes!"

I smiled widely pulling back from his warm hug.

---

"You can't be serious, Annie!" Adrian squealed.

"Yeah but I have to be serious. This was not how I wanted the party to be."

After I told Addy everything about Mike and Jace drama, I was relieved as huge load was off me. Well, I thought I would get a solution to it but Adrian kept squealing...

"Why? I missed all the drama!" He added dramatically.

I rolled my eyes. Currently, we were on my bed. Adrian was lying down and I was sitting cross-legged with a pillow in my lap.

The clock struck twelve, my phone rang and Adrian literally shouted in my ear, "Happy Birthday Annie!
Happy birthday to youuu
Haaappy birthday to youuuu
Happy birthday dear Anniee
Happy birthday to youuuuuu."

And then I was wrapped in a huge bear hug which I know why, first, I had turn 18, and second Adrian was damn happy about wishing me first this year. Emily would be pissed if she knew this and if I didn't pick her phone up...

But, he continued,
"May God bless you
May you have a boyfriend this year,
May you forget that red-haired guy you liked in class one,
May- " I cut him off.

"Red-haired boy?" I asked, confused.

"Yeah! You wrote about him in your diary."

I didn't remember anything.

I gave a confused look before realization dawned upon me.

"Addd! You read my diary???" I shrieked like hell.

"Yeah I did." He stated.

"Ohmygod when? How?"

I was never so embarassed in my life. I hid my face in my palms, still wrapped in his hug.

"Stop freaking out Annie. I have the right to know. Jace knows. I know."

The phone rang again.

"Addy-" I tried to get out of his hug.

"Oh why is this phone ringing?" He muttered annoyed while I was wrapped up in his hug.

"Emily's calling," I said.

And guess what he did next, he took my phone, and shouted into it, "Haiiii Emilyyyy!"

Believe me, he looked like a drama queen today.

"Ohmygod Adrian! Where's Ann?" she shrieked.

She hated him.

"Give her the phone!" She shouted so loudly that even I could hear it clearly.

"Nope." Adrian said popping the 'p'. And Emily was pissed. You don't wanna see her pissed.

I snatched the phone and Adrian 'acted' that wounded expression and saw me like a puppy just hit by a stone. Okay. I am not good at analogies.

"Hey Em!" I panted with all that laughter.

"Annie!" she squealed.

"Happy Birthday darling!" She wished me.

And after five minutes of talking and of course explaining how the hell Adrian came straight to my house after vacation, she kept the phone.

Serena being impatient had called five times on my landline. Finally, after minutes of explaining and thanking and laughing, Adrian gave me a surprise. He was staying at my house! This was the best birthday gift I had got.

"Oh this is nothing," Addy said.

"This is everything for me!" I exclaimed.

---

"Get up Annie! Annie, Anniee, Anniee!" Adrian sang and switched on the freaking lights.

Like literally, he made up a song out of it.

"God Adrian! Go away!" I muttered, frustrated as I covered my face with the pillow.

"You don't wanna see my present?" He asked.

I opened my eyes and peeked from my pillow to see his eyebrow raised.

"You are my present." I again covered my face.

"You give me no choice, then."

Cold water came splashing on my face and my room was filled Adrian's laughter and my screams of annoyance. "You dare!" I stood up on my knees, throwing away my blanket and throwing two pillows on his face. Then, I saw the 'bucket', yes, a bucket of cold water (and it was extremely cold since it was winters) lying on my bedside and an idea came to me. Adrian saw what I was going to do but I was quicker, I picked up the bucket and Adrian suddenly cowered back.

"Anna, no!" he warned.

"Of course not!" I replied sarcastically and threw the water on him.

"Ugghhh!" Adrian groaned and I laughed.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING?!" Aunt Pauline screeched as I saw her on the door of my room.

She was our neighbour and she would come and check on me when it was time for school.

"Aunt Pauline, I-"

"Let your mother come back." And she slammed the door.

I looked at Adrian and he looked at me and we both ended up laughing.

We dressed up for school (Adrian was all prepared, I adore this guy!), and we rode to school in Addy's BMW (He was damn rich).

As I got out of the car, Emily and Serena came running to me, hugging and kissing me and singing 'happy birthday' to me so loud, that probably, the whole school now knows that it's my birthday. I saw Nathan from the corner of my eye with Alexander watching us. I glanced back and told Emily and Serena not to 'broadcast' my birthday at school.

We started heading to our class. Emily and Serena had history, so they went the other way while I and Adrian had psychology, so we had to check our schedule at the reception as our psychology class room was never fixed. Suddenly, Adrian stopped.

"Hey what happened?" I asked confused.

"We're not attending the class today."

"Why not?" Seriously, I loved psychology classes.

"Remember, your birthday present?" He said, glancing at his watch.

"Aww, it's no need."

"Shhh." He shushed me, grabbed my hand and started heading towards the parking lot.

As we were about to exit the front door, Nathan and Alexander bumped into us.

"Hey birthday girl!" Nathan greeted me.

It was awkward, he being nice to me after what happened at chemistry lab. I thought he was irritated with me.

"Hey!" I replied.

Let me tell you, Adrian hated Nathan. They were the two popular guys of the school AND were enemies.

"Let's go Annie." He held my hand and pulled me with him.

"How the hell is he talking to you?" He asked.

"A lot changed since you were away."

"I need to know everything but right now, I need you to close your eyes." He said, excited.

"Hey where are you two going?" We heard Nathan calling us from a distance but Adrian told me to ignore him while he led me towards God knows where. My hands had gone sweaty in excitement and I wondered what was so special in Addy's present. I yearned to know.

Finally, after like five minutes, Adrian said, "Ta daa!" And I opened my eyes slowly.

"Happy Birthday Princess! Your Prince is here." Adrian cheered as I saw the red-haired person standing in front of me.

In that moment, my best birthday became the worst birthday ever.
